Tau or the letter ´T´ in the Greek alphabet has been associated with the city of Tarraco/Tarragona since early Christian times. It is still the logo of the Archbishopric of Tarragona nowadays. In the Roman imperial era the imperial temple of Tarraco was the seat of the cult of the Emperor on the Iberian peninsula, then in late-Roman times it became the headquarters of Christianity on the Iberian peninsula and in the Middle Ages - to reconquer Tarragona from the Moors was as good as going on a Crusade to Jerusalem! - this mystical city was the seat of a province of the Spanish Catholic Church that stretched all the way from Pamplona to Mallorca. Tau symbolizes the cross, resurrection, life. No wonder then that Montsant, the Els Ports mountain range and many spots in between housed and still house a innumerable quantity of hermitages, singular spaces of retreat and spirituality.
